Beware. Pinterest is addicting, time consuming and… not entirely necessary. But once you start pinning, there’s no turning back! This online bulletin board will quickly peak your interest and tap into your creative side. On Pinterest, you will find recipes, fashion, fitness tips, DIY ideas and much more. The site grabs your interest with enticing photos of all your favorite and soon-to-be favorite things.
You can browse the boards at any time. But by signing up with Pinterest, you can create your own boards and name them whatever you like. You can post or comment and you can even find ways for self-promotion (all pictures are linked back to the original website).
How to Sign Up for Pinterest
To sign up, you must request an invitation. By going to pinterest.com, you can click on “Request an invite”. However, you may wait days or longer to get that invite. You can sign up through Facebook or Twitter and an invitation will be sent to you by email. Or you can ask an existing member to send you an invitation and you can sign up right away.
What Are Pinterest “Boards”
Once you log in, you can create your profile and start setting up your boards. Your boards are where your pins reside and you can use the list of names that pinterest gives you, such as “My Life”, “Home Décor”, or “Gardening”, or you can name your own boards (i.e. “Places I’d like to Visit”). Don’t worry, you can add to or edit your board names whenever you like.
Pinning on Pinterest
Once you set up your boards, you’re ready to start pinning. You can download the “Pin It” button so that you can simply click “Pin It” whenever you find something on the web you want to post to your board. This can be a pair of shoes, a recipe, a fabulous sofa, etc… You can pin images from other people’s boards by selecting “Repin” at the top of the image. You can also upload your own images to your boards. When you repin, you choose the board you want to pin to and you can add your own caption.
Following on Pinterest
You can follow other pinners and other pinners can follow you. If you find someone who has a great “Fashion” board for instance, you can choose to follow their pins to that board, or you can follow all of their pins. You will see the pins from those you follow when you log in or when you click on the Pinterest logo.
Beware, Pinterest is Addicting
What starts out as an innocent interest and a peek in to see what all the hype is about, will quickly turn into a full-fledged addiction and hours in front of your computer. The never ending perfect pictures feed your creative mind and constantly inspire you to cook, craft, shop, dream and much more.
